Venice Beach Debuts Its First Monthly Art Crawl on August 19th, 2010

Venice Beach, CA, July 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Local Artists Will Showcase Their Work at Landmark Venice Venues

The 1st Monthly Venice Art Crawl will be kicking off on August 19th and continuing, all year round, every 3rd Thursday in Venice. The monthly event will take place from 6pm – 10pm. The free monthly event is about celebrating Venice, a place that has long been synonymous with art, through showcasing the local artists and their work.

The Venice Art Crawl is a free monthly exploration of the Venice Beach area and the world famous Venice artist community and spirit. Over 20 venues will be participating including Hotel Erwin, James Beach, The Canal Club and Danny’s Deli. Each venue will house a different artist and offer discounts on food and drinks.

The area has a long history of being a haven of creativity and home for artists and consequently it seemed only natural that Venice, one of the city’s most creative and historic areas, should have an art crawl. In the 1950’s Venice became a center for the Beat generation leading to an explosion of poetry and art with world-renowned participants including Ed Moses, Robert Graham, Saul White and Larry Bell.

The artistic force continues today and acts as an expression of the unique diversity of its host community. Recently, numerous local artists came to voice their frustration with the lack of exhibition spaces in Venice, especially
on the Venice Boardwalk, a traditional area where artists have shown their art. Consequently, the goal of the Venice Art Crawl is to provide artists with an important avenue through which to showcase their work and to give art enthusiasts, and locals, an opportunity to discover the Venice art scene for themselves.

The Art Crawl’s main area of activity will be focused going north from North Venice Blvd along the Boardwalk, Speedway and Pacific ending at Westminster Avenue. The center of the Art Crawl will be on the historic Windward Avenue, home of the “Venice” sign and Windward circle, considered the heart of historic Venice; ground zero for numerous art, music, poetry and sport movements. Most venues will be open till 9pm but specific times will be listed next to each venue on the map.

Lodging can be booked at Hotel Erwin www.hotelerwin.com for out of town guests.

About Venice Art Crawl: The Art Crawl is a non-profit, venue-based event to help local artists show their art. Areas such as Downtown, Silverlake and Culver City have begun similar monthly events to
showcase their community and the artists that reside there. These events, especially in the tough current economic times, have helped support the livelihoods of many artists as well as the local businesses. It seemed natural that Venice, one of the city’s most creative and historic areas, should do so as well. For more information, go to www.veniceartcrawl.com
