Steri-Trac® System Purchased by Two More VA’s

Medical centers in Florida and Tennessee are the latest to choose ChemDAQ system for sterilant gas monitoring.

Pittsburgh, PA, July 31, 2010 --(PR.com)-- ChemDAQ, Inc. announced this week that the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Centers in Lake City, FL and Mountain Home, TN have purchased the Steri-Trac® monitoring system for their respective facilities. VAMC Lake City will use ChemDAQ sensors to monitor employee exposure to Ethylene Oxide (EtO) in their sterile processing department, while VAMC Mountain Home will monitor the use of both EtO and Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2).

Steri-Trac is now the monitoring system of choice for 55 VAMCs across the United States. “It is clear that the healthcare industry as a whole is becoming more educated about the potential hazards of exposure to sterilant gases in the workplace,” said David Hilliker, President and CEO of ChemDAQ. Hilliker added that “many hospitals are realizing how important it is to monitor not only the use of EtO, but H2O2 as well. As EtO is phased out of many sterile processing departments, there is often a misconception about the increased safety of H2O2 and other alternatives like Ozone and Peracetic Acid, which is certainly not the case.”

In addition to improving workplace safety, ChemDAQ’s system also ensures that hospitals meet occupational health and safety regulations. In the event of a sudden leak, the Steri-Trac system’s impending alerts and alarms ensure that employees are adequately warned and able to evacuate the facility if necessary.

The two VAMCs plan to install the systems later this year.
