Lincoln, NE, August 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Following the tragic shootings at Virginia Tech, several new amendments to the Jeanne Clery Act went into effect July 1, 2010. Awareity officially launched new TIPS (Threat Assessment, Incident Management and Prevention Services) on July 15, 2010. TIPS offers a unique suite of tools to immediately improve campus safety efforts, incident reporting, incident management, and prevention and intervention efforts.

The new requirements for institutions of higher education include:

1) All schools are required to have an official emergency plan and a summary of that plan disclosed in their annual security report, beginning October 1, 2010.
2) Schools must include procedures to immediately notify the campus community during an emergency. Description must include the process the institution will use to confirm an emergency situation, what segments of the campus community will receive notification, how to determine the content of the notification and the titles of the person who are permitted to initiate the system.
3) Schools will now be required to conduct at least one yearly drill designed to assess and evaluate its emergency response and evacuation procedures.
How is your school preparing to connect the dots and comply with new Clery Act Requirements?

Once-a-year exercises are clearly not enough, so how do school leaders make campus security a priority throughout the year and ensure all personnel are aware of new risks, red flags, procedures, etc.?

Awareity’s MOAT (Managed Ongoing Awareness and Trust) services provide tools for developing and updating customized emergency and crisis management plans, policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities, communicating roles, tracking individual acknowledgements, measuring preparedness, and maintaining a continuing cycle of situational awareness and accountability. MOAT is helping colleges to meet new Clery Act requirements and ensure all individuals understand their individual roles and responsibilities for campus safety and security.

Awareity also released a new service, TIPS (Threat Assessment, Incident Management and Prevention Services), providing secure and confidential online tools for students, faculty, staff and third-parties to confidentially report incidents (bullying, cyber-bullying, threats, suspicious incidents, etc.). TIPS gives school administrators the ability to assign Threat Assessment Teams to each type of incident so red flags do not fall through gaps, appropriate personnel are automatically notified, and responses are shared, tracked and documented.

TIPS also allows Threat Assessment Team members to assign incident reports to the appropriate Clery Act category:

- Non-forcible sex offenses
- Forcible sex offenses
- Negligent manslaughter
- Murder and non-negligent manslaughter
- Aggravated assault
- Motor vehicle theft
- All liquor, drug or weapons law violations resulting in an arrest
- All hate crimes involving bodily injury
- Arson
- Robbery
- Burglary

The incident reports are stored in a secure and searchable database, allowing campus personnel to access audit-ready reports to meet Clery Act crime reporting requirements on an annual and ongoing basis.
