Central Scholarship Awards Over $1 Million in Scholarships and Interest-Free Loans

Baltimore, MD, August 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Nonprofit surpasses 2009 with awards to almost 250 students.

Close to 250 students will receive awards from Central Scholarship totaling $1.13 million this coming fall. This number surpasses 2009’s awards of $1 million in scholarships and interest-free loans to about 200 students. The awards range from $1,000-$10,000 and can be used for a wide range of studies.

Since 1924, CSB has provided interest-free loans and scholarships to the Greater Baltimore Community. Awards are made for students pursuing undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees as well as vocational and career training. In the past five years, CSB has steadily grown the number of applicants going from 450 applicants in 2007, to 2800 applicants in 2010. The competitive awards are based on financial need and academic merit.

“We are privileged to play a role in the lives of these remarkable students by enabling them to pursue their educational goals,” says Jan Wagner, President of CSB. “We are only able to do so because of the commitment and support of our donors. In this still-challenging economy, our contributors have stepped-up to fill the financial void for so many of these inspiring students.”

CSB scholarship recipients use the funding to pay for their education to pursue careers in all walks of life. They have helped students become teachers, writers, automotive technicians, nurses and engineers among many other exciting professions.
