Lottery Funding for Broomfield Hall

Derbyshire, United Kingdom, August 14, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Derby College is forging ahead with plans to set up a Local Food Hub at Broomfield Hall to help local people to learn how to grow their own produce as well as helping current local producers to sell their own produce having secured 299,000 pounds Sterling funding from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme.

The Local Food Hub at Broomfield Hall is due to be launched this October. It aims to inspire and upskill people of all ages, and from a range of cultural backgrounds, to grow their own food through community growing projects and training courses.

A retail outlet and café will also be opened at Broomfield Hall later this year for local producers to sell their goods – ranging from meat and vegetables to home-made cakes.

Head of Broomfield Hall Louise Curd explained: “The Hub will enable us to support local growers with a range of short courses related to establishing and maintaining allotments and small holding and give them the opportunity to network with other to share good practice.”

For further information on the smallholders course starting on Tuesday September 22 contact Derby College, Tel: 0800 028 0289 or visit the website www.derby-college.ac.uk
