Hailsham Town Council Increases Burial Fees for 2010/2011

Charges for burials in Hailsham are set to increase from 1 September 2010.

Hailsham, United Kingdom, August 18, 2010 --(PR.com)-- At a Burials & Properties meeting held in August, Hailsham Town Council had resolved to modify the fees it charges for plots in Hailsham Cemetery as part of an annual review.

Based on the new fee schedule, burial charges for an adult parishioner will increase from £390 to £400 for the purchase of a single grave, a rise of only 2.5%. The cost for a double grave for an adult parishioner will increase from £390 to £430.

Following an increase in the number of people from outside the town applying for burial rights over the past few years, the burial cost for adult non-parishioners will be at least twice the cost of that which is charged to Hailsham residents.

Charges for the interment of cremated remains in a grave (in respect of which an Exclusive Right of Burial has been granted) will remain unchanged at £175 for parishioners and £360 for non-parishioners.

Cllr Paul Holbrook, chairman of the Town Council’s Burials and Properties Committee which manages the cemetery and sets burial charges, commented, “The Council has decided to increase burial fees for people living outside of Hailsham as it has to take into account the long-term future of the cemetery and protect its limited space for parishioners.”

He added, “It is important that the Town Council sets its fees at higher rates for non-parishioners applying for burial rights, so any extra burden does not fall on the council tax payers of Hailsham.”

Additional fees as determined by the Town Council are available on request by calling 01323 841702 (during office hours). Alternatively, you can visit www.hailsham-tc.gov.uk for their current burial fee schedule.
