Pilates in Central Park Fundraiser Benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation

Palm Coast, FL, August 16, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On October 16th, 2010 join the residents of Flagler County as they take a stance for a cause. This is the first annual Pilates in Central Park Breast Cancer Awareness and Fundraising event. Pilates in Central Park is raising money to fight Breast Cancer and is expected to attract around 200 participants. Everyone who attends will receive a 45 minutes Pilates session taught by YMCA and Synergy Instructors. Pilates is a fitness routine developed in Germany by Joseph Pilates. In the United States, there are an estimated 11 million people who practice Pilates and around 14,000 instructors teaching the practice. “Pilates is for men and women of all ages. You do not need any experience, as this is a workout that focuses on your mind, body, and spirit, all while benefiting research to save lives,” says Kelly Lohman, Event Organizer and Manager of Pop-A-Lock of Daytona Beach. “My grandmother was a survivor of Breast Cancer and I’m doing this for her and for everyone who has been affected by this disease.” It’s estimated that 200,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and nearly 40,000 will die of Breast Cancer this year.”

All proceeds from Pilates in Central Park will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation®(BCRF®). The mission of BCRF® is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. The BCRF identifies the top researchers conducting the most innovative breast cancer research at leading medical centers worldwide and awards these scientists generous grants and encouragement to explore novel strategies and unconventional directions. “BCRF allows these researchers to dedicate all their energy to helping real people, with real diseases, get cured and live productive lives,” says Larry Norton, MD, Chairman, BCRF Executive Board of Scientific Advisors.
