New Year, New Start? i-to-i Launches the Ultimate Get Away Guide for Jaded Workers

Leading meaningful travel provider i-to-i launches the complete guide to taking a career break.

Leeds, United Kingdom, January 03, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Employers could be feeling the pinch of recruitment in the new year as, more so than ever, the UK’s workforce looks to taking time out from the rat race and taking a well earned career break.

According to new research from the career break specialist, i-to-i travel, nearly a third of employees (29 per cent) are set to up sticks and quit their jobs in 2007, a rise of nearly 10 per cent since this time last year and nearly doubling when compared to 2003.

Figures from the company’s annual career break survey show a sharp rise in the number of workers set to take time out in 2007. And so, with New Year’s resolutions firmly set, i-to-i has pooled its wealth of travel knowledge with that of its travellers to produce a complete guide to this years ‘must have’ – the career break.

‘Gimme a break - A Career Breaker's Guide to a Life Less Ordinary’, is a light-hearted but informative manual to taking time out from the rat race. The 80-page book features everything from how to ask your boss for time off, to what to do with your mortgage (and even your cat!) while away. It is packed with tips and advice from a range of experts in finance, travel, employment and life coaching, as well as real stories from those who have actually done it along with inspirational quotes on how their breaks transformed their lives.

The book is designed to not only show people the full extent of options available, but also to advise would-be breakers on exactly how to go about making their escape. Top tips include how to get the best out of your career break, what you can do with your time away and how to organise it.

Deirdre Bounds, founder of i-to-i and fellow career breaker, comments: "When speaking to potential customers it became obvious that so many people were desperate to take a break, but lacked the confidence, the cash, or simply the knowledge of where to get started. 'Gimme a Break' is written with these people in mind, to show that no matter what your profession, your age, your income or the stage of your career, anything is possible - in fact it's easy!"

The research carried out by i-to-i revealed that almost half (45 per cent) of all workers are feeling unappreciated and badly rewarded for their hard work. What’s more, a further quarter (27 percent), think a career break is just the ticket to get re-energised, re-motivated and raring to go!

With almost a quarter (22 per cent) of the UK workforce feeling bored and disillusioned, it seems more and more professionals are using travel to change direction or fuel their career paths. Whereas five years ago around 95 per cent of i-to-i travellers were gap year students, career breakers aged 25+ now account for around a third of all i-to-i customers.

Gone are the days when gap years were just for the young and the rich. Travel is more accessible for everyone these days and more and more employees are beginning to see the benefits a career break or sabbatical could have on their lives and future career prospects.

i-to-i founder Deirdre Bounds continues, “I can speak from absolute personal experience when I say career breaks are the way forward. I took a career break and came back energised, enthusiastic and crammed full of ideas. Before I knew it I was running my own company and sending thousands of people overseas to enjoy the same experiences and opportunities that I’d had.

“So many people are fed up with life and searching for something better or simply needing to take a time out. This book is all about helping people to stop wondering and start doing!”
