New Spiritual Comedy Show in LA

Author/comedian Beth Lapides embodies a new cultural trend: spiritual comedy. New Age seekers who want a little lightness with their enlightenment and comedy theater audiences that like a little depth with their humor are coming together to create a growing audience for conscious comedy.

Los Angeles, CA, September 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Comedian Beth Lapides' new stage show “100% Happy 88% of the Time” fuses story, music and spirituality with the trademark unconventional comedic sass she developed while hosting the legendary Un-Cabaret.

Beth has been called the "high-priestess of alternative comedy." Now she proposes an alternative to the snarky sarcasm and bitter satire of most "alternative comedy": conscious comedy.

In her new show, Beth leads us boldly into the "Now Age." She uses standup, original songs and multi-media to tell the story of her eviction and the bigger story of our collective eviction as a culture. With the collapse of the economy and the eco-system, this show couldn’t be more timely - or more upbeat. Beth’s infectious upbeat sparkle combined with her inspiring ideas about happiness, and how the hell to achieve it while surfing the tsunamis of change we’re all swimming in these days, add up to a dazzling night of evolutionary entertainment.

The cultural visionary who revolutionized comedy with “Un-Cabaret” and pretty much launched spoken word in LA with her “Say the Word” series, is back with a new theatrical tour-de-force.

“100% Happy 88% of the Time” is Written & Performed by Beth Lapides, Directed by Clifford Bell, Musical Director Match Kaplan, Produced by Greg Miller. Original Songs Written by Beth & Mitch.

Beth Lapides is a twenty first century artist. A hyphenated hybrid with an eye toward higher consciousness. Technically she is a comedian, and the media in which she makes light are live, print, online and on screens. You could say she is an author, radio and TV personality, columnist and actress and you would not be wrong. She's also a respected teacher, an avid yoga student and a Type A free spirit: working hard to let the wind blow her where it will.

Beth is best known for founding, hosting and producing Un-Cabaret, the legendary live show that led the "alternative comedy" revolution. Nevertheless when strangers recognize her it is usually from her brief but captivating appearance as the performance artist on "Sex and the City."

Beth's an original thinker and her columns, essays an opinions have appeared in and on Politically Incorrect, NPR's "All Things Considered", the Huffington Post, Los Angeles Times, Fit Yoga, Utne Reader, The Realist, LA Weekly, Premiere and freshyarn.com. She was the irreverently thoughtful self help correspondent for ABC Radio's Satellite Sisters and writes a syndicated column called "My Other Car Is A Yoga Mat”. She has toured the english-speaking world with previous one-person theater shows and "100% Happy 88% of the Time" is her joyous return to the theater.

Clifford Bell is one of the leading directors in the fields of Cabaret, Concerts, and One Person Shows. As a thirty year veteran of the Los Angeles nightclub scene, Clifford is most identified with the legendary Cinegrill at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. He has directed Katey Sagal, Judy Butterfield, Judy Butterfield, Ana Gasteyer, Rosalyn Kind, Brad Ellis (“Glee”) and has written and directed variety performances featuring icons like Bill Cosby, Colin Powell, and Michael Eisner at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim.

Mitch Kaplan has been Musical Director for Ana Gasteyer (“Saturday Night Live”), Tony-winner Cady Huffman and for Sandra Bernhard. His songs have been recorded by Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Thelma Houston and Martika, for which he earned a gold record. He has performed on HBO, Will & Grace and on every continent except Antarctica.
