Geoff Blum Nominated for Prestigious Roberto Clemente Award

Houston Astros first baseman Geoff Blum has been chosen as a finalist for the Roberto Clemente award. The award is given to MLB players who show a commitment to excellence both on and off the field. The winner will be announced after voting as ended on Oct. 8.

Mission Viejo, CA, September 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- EFX Team Athlete Geoff Blum has been named the Houston Astros’ nominee for the annual Roberto Clemente Award. His work with the team’s “Play Green” program in the Houston community and on field production have earned him the honor to be a finalist.

“It’s no surprise to us that Geoff would be a nominee. We chose him to represent EFX because of his commitment to improving his game and the community. We believe he embodies EFX’s commitment to giving back,” said Paul Hebert, head of sponsorship for EFX.

Blum will be competing against representatives from 29 other teams in the MLB. The award, presented by Chevrolet, will be decided by a fan vote held now until Oct. 8. It is named for Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente and was first awarded in 1971 to Willie Mays.

The Roberto Clemente Award is given to players who excel both on-field with their play as well as off-field through community improvement programs. The award is regarded by many as one of the most prestigious awards in baseball every year.
