New STRAT Newsletter Article: Top Publisher Problems

Announcing the publication of a feature article about publishing industry issues in the STRAT magazine publishing newsletter.

New Britain, CT, September 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In the September 2010 issue of STRAT, research editor Meredith Dias compiles the results of a recent STRAT survey. This summer, STRAT asked over 600 publishers to identify their top problems. In "What Ails Publishers Most," Dias highlights some of the top issues reported.

Among those issues most prevalent were advertising sales, soaring postal rates, monetization of content, and staff cuts. Dias quotes one publisher whose competitors have cut rates by over 50 percent, a problem echoed by several other survey respondents.

Dias attempts to link the top problems reported thematically, pointing to the difficulty that online profitability has posed for many publishers seeking to monetize digital content, as well as the challenge of bringing old media staffers into the digital milieu. She also explores several of the top issues in depth: postage problems, staff issues, competitive rate cutting, and monetizing content.
