Houston Center for Photography Exhibit Combines Photography, Fashion, and Charity

On October 20, 2010, Houston Center of Photography will host a gallery exhibition of work by Jaime Collier of Casa de Camera featuring the CrOp by David Peck collection to raise money for clean water in Uganda.

Houston, TX, September 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On October 20, 2010, Houston Center of Photography will host a gallery exhibition of work by Jaime Collier of Casa de Camera featuring the CrOp by David Peck collection to raise money for clean water in Uganda.

Collier’s photographic portrayals of humanitarian work in Uganda inspired the inaugural season of CrOp by David Peck. Peck manipulated the textures and patterns in Collier’s work into digitally printed silks and organic cottons. When Collier returned to Uganda for a follow-up visit in July 2010, she took pieces from the CrOp collection with her and photographed them on local girls in the locations where the original photos were taken that were turned into the prints. “It was great to bring this project full-circle, and see the prints created from my photos back in Uganda,” said Collier.

Large-scale, framed prints of Collier’s work will be sold by silent auction along with small, unframed prints that will be available for purchase. Hollywood Frame of Houston has generously donated all of the framing of the exhibition. Elaine Turner Designs and CrOp by David Peck will raffle off a runway look that will have been shown at Audi Fashion Houston the week prior.

“I am very excited and proud to be part of this collaboration with Jaime,” said Peck. “The HCP event on the October 20th will celebrate Jaime’s photography and the work in Uganda. Our goal for the evening is to raise enough money to build one new well for an AIDS clinic.”

Living Water International will receive the proceeds from the evening. Living Water partners with Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI) to assist in providing clean water for AIDS clinics in Uganda. CrOp by David Peck will give 10% of the profits from the Spring 2011 collection to BIPAI.

Houston Center for Photography is a professionally managed, permanent institution that exhibits but does not collect works of art. Founded in 1981 as a visual artists’ organization, Houston Center for Photography is a model nonprofit organization with a budget of approximately $500,000. It is the only visual artists’ organization in the South and Southwest with a paid professional staff, offering year-round programs and services devoted exclusively to photography and related media.

Jaime Collier of Casa de Camera is a photojournalist based in Houston, Texas. She finds most of her subjects in artistic journalism and her love of history and culture can be seen through her fashion stills that are often described as Americana Culture. Whether through sponsoring art openings for up-and-coming artists, classes in her studio or teaching high school students; she hopes to spread her love of art and the business.

David Peck studied fashion at Parsons Paris School of Art + Design. While at Parsons, he won top honors as the recipient of the junior year Silver Thimble Award and the prestigious Designer of the Year Award for his senior collection--Brave New World. In Paris, he worked for noted fashion houses such as Robert Normand, Paco Rabanne, and Junichi Hakamaki. Peck launched his eponymous collection in Paris, France, in Spring 2006; and it was sold exclusively at the boutique Shade.

David re-located to New York to co-found and co-design Untiled 11:11, a high-end womenswear collection committed to sustainable design. Untitled 11:11 quickly became a favorite of celebrities like Taylor Swift for its beauty and commitment to the environment. His collections combine refined elegance of Parisian style with American practicality, comprised of luxurious one-of-a-kind garments.

CrOp by David Peck is a fun and quirky clothing line with a conscience. CrOp is short for “creative opportunities.” Each CrOp collection is done in collaboration with other creative professionals who value giving back. CrOp’s goal is to develop a network of artists who can generate even greater opportunities together. A portion of the profits of each CrOp garment sold will go directly to fund a cause that inspired the collection. The premiere collection of CrOp will open the shows at Audi Fashion Houston on October 12, 2010.
