YAF Supports Maryland Store Owner in Spat Over “Offensive” T-Shirts Supporting Arizona
“Maryland Stands With Arizona” Shirts Called Derogatory and Offensive by Mall Management
Gaithersburg, MD, September 22, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Maryland State Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom is supporting a Frederick, M.D. store owner in a dispute with Francis Scott Key Mall management over the sale of T-shirts expressing the patriotic message that “Maryland Stands With Arizona.”
Mall management recently sent a letter to James Kehoe, owner of Antietam Gallery, asking Kehoe to stop selling the shirts, noting that, "Sale and display of said goods with derogatory or offensive political messages” violates a section of Kehoe’s lease “in which Tenant agrees to operate in a respectable manner."
"The fact they had considered this patriotic T-shirt to be inflammatory and racist, it hit me the wrong way," Kehoe said. "It's not about the T-shirt, it's about people being victimized by political correctness and people feeling they are not able to speak the truth about things.”
President Obama’s Justice Department filed legal action against the state of Arizona for passing a state law that mimics U.S. federal law making it illegal to be inside of the United States without proper legal documentation.
“This situation is completely outrageous,” said YAF Maryland State Chairman Adam Cassandra. “The pro-illegal immigration group CASA de Maryland cited the decision of mall management to censor Kehoe’s free patriotic speech as ‘some positive signs of change.’”
CASA de Maryland plans to stand on the National Mall on October 2 with such groups as La Raza, the Communist Party USA, SEIU, Code Pink, ANSWER, the AFL-CIO, Planned Parenthood and others to agitate for a crippling of United States border security.
“Securing the border and making sure people do not enter our country illegally should be a top priority for anyone concerned about the national security of the United States,” said YAF’s Cassandra. “Young Americans for Freedom will always stand against those who seek to weaken our nation’s defenses for personal or political gain.”
“I want to make it clear that YAF stands with Mr. Kehoe, and Maryland stands with Arizona,” Cassandra said.
