New Release by Ulmon Bray Tells Marine’s Story of Struggles and Optimism in Wartime; Released by Dog Ear Publishing

Fresno, CA, September 24, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Learn what life is like for a young marine separated from family and friends first during the Great Depression and then during World War II. Cpl. Buel Wesley Bray, the author’s brother, served as a Marine during that war and wrote more than 60 letters to Bobbie Waren, a young woman whose sister had married his brother. The story builds on recollections during conversations with Bobbie, as well as the letters, 57 of which Bobbie saved. The letters reveal not only his military experience but also life behind the front lines.

Obediently Yours, Orson Welles, published by Dog Ear Publishing, tells the story of a young man forced to go far from his home on a quest to find work during the Great Depression, ending up at a training program sponsored by the Works Progress Administration in Connecticut. When the graduate gets no work, he returns home to find his brothers are working in California shipyards. Before heading west to California, he gets to know Bobbie, a shy girl who is helping with her sister’s children. When his draft notice is delivered, Bray decides to join the Marine Corps, a decision that will have life-changing consequences.

This heart-felt story draws on not only letters and personal recollections but on copies of military personnel records, including a schedule of movement and location of training and combat during Bray’s tour of duty. The places Bray visited with his ordnance company are real, and the experiences of the characters are those lived by Marine trainees and combatants. Readers will be pulled along by the author’s description of day-to-day life in training camp and during active duty, as well as his budding romance with Bobbie.
