New York, NY, October 01, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Florilegium: The Flowering of the Pacific Debuts on DVD October 26

Kultur announces the release of Florilegium: The Flowering of the Pacific on DVD October 26, 2010 for a retail price of $19.99.

A reconstruction of the voyage of Sir Joseph Banks with Captain Cook through the Pacific to discover Australia in 1768-1771. Also chronicles the printing more than 200 hundred years after the voyage, of the original engraved plates made from the drawings and watercolors by Banks. The documentary, narrated by Robert Hughes, transports viewers to such beautiful locales as Java, Brazil, Madeira, New Zealand, and Australia.

This film traces that first voyage of discovery, visiting the places where Banks and Solander recorded specimens: Madeira, Rio de Janeiro, Tierra del Fuego, Tahiti, New Zealand and Australia. It also documents Alecto Historical Editions' massive undertaking in producing a full-color edition of Bunks’ Florilegium. A rich mixture of art, history, science and travel, the program gives a remarkably clear insight into the thirst for knowledge and the search for beauty which characterize so much of eighteenth-century achievement.
