Main Street Power Awarded 2.37 MW of Distributed Solar Projects for Contra Costa County in Northern California

Boulder, CO, October 02, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Main Street Power Company, Inc., a national solar developer, based in Boulder, Colorado announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to build, own and operate 2.37 megawatts (MW) of distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on 12 sites across the County.

The clean electricity produced over the life of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the 2.37 MW of solar installations will save an estimated 54,782 metric tons of CO2 emissions. This is equivalent to removing 6,138,000 vehicle miles off the road per year.

“We are excited to partner with Main Street Power on this significant investment in renewable energy. The solar energy project is part of the County’s efforts to meet our sustainability goals and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions consistent with the Board’s Municipal Climate Action Plan and Strategic Energy Plan initiatives,” stated the County Director of General Services, Mike Lango.

Under the PPA, Main Street will own and operate the systems at County sites for 20 years, selling clean solar energy at discounted rates. In addition to the no capital outlay PPA, Main Street Power will be partnering with the Contra Costa County Workforce Development Board to hire local labor and identify job-training opportunities. The contract also has a requirement to pay prevailing wages and specifies that contractors in Contra Costa County will provide half of the installation work.

According to Jonathan Postal, Main Street Power’s Senior Vice President, “the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisor’s has demonstrated a genuine commitment to invest in and support renewable energy. The benefits of this public/private partnership will serve the citizens of Contra Costa County well into the future.”
