Thousand Oaks Philharmonic Presents a Series of Fundraisers

First fundraiser features Thousand Oaks native and prize-winning cellist Andrew Janss on October 3

Thousand Oaks, CA, October 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Thousand Oaks Philharmonic (www.tophil.org) announced three fundraising events, beginning with Thousand Oaks native and prize-winning cellist Andrew Janss. Proceeds will help produce the annual concert series the Philharmonic sponsors, which features area young artists in performance with the professional orchestra. Andrew will perform on October 3 at 3:00 p.m.

Andrew Janss, a 26-year old professional cellist, grew up in Thousand Oaks, and was a frequent soloist with the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic during his high school and conservatory years of training. A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, he is a finalist in the Beijing International Cello Competition. Janss will present repertoire he has prepared for the competition, which will take place later in October. He will be joined by collaborative pianist Shari Raynor, a faculty member at Pepperdine University.

“Andrew represents the quintessential example of what we at the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic have been trying to facilitate; professional training and experience for serious students in music, so that they will be better prepared for the professional world of music,” said Edward Francis, Founder and Chairman, Thousand Oaks Philharmonic. “Though we offer solo performance opportunities to many excellent music students, about 25 of our more than 200 alumni soloists have either become professional musicians or are in degree programs to become professional musicians. If we consider Andrew’s multiple performances with us added to all of his additional training, I would classify him as one of our shining stars. We are grateful that he agreed to give this performance for us before leaving for China, as the funds raised will help us continue our series of concerts for future rising stars,” added Francis.

Executive Board member and violinist Joyce Osborn was a chamber music coach for Andrew when he was in high school. She commented: “It is quite rewarding to see the development of any young artist, but I have a long history with Andrew, as he played in a trio that I was privileged to coach which won a state competition several years ago. It was obvious that he had a special gift back then, but to see and hear the results of his many years of hard work as he reaches this outstanding professional level…well, it makes the work of the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic all worth it.”

The two remaining fundraising events are scheduled for November 6 at 7:30 p.m., featuring the return of the Westlake Chamber Ensemble of Stephen Custer, cello, Nancy Bonds, clarinet, Donna Jerz, flute, and Edward Francis, piano. The final performance is set for January 8, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Thousand Oaks Philharmonic concertmaster Dianne Rammon, board and orchestra member Phyllis Rautenberg, horn, and Christine DeKlotz, piano.

There are a limited number of seats and reservations are now being taken. The cost to attend each event is $75. A reservation for all three events is specially priced at $200. All three events will take place in Thousand Oaks at the home of Thousand Oaks Philharmonic Founder and Chairman Edward Francis. Exact address and directions will be given upon reservation confirmation. Please contact the Thousand Oaks Philharmonic at tophiharmonic@gmail.com or 805.376.2485.
