DPR Construction Honored by American Institute of Architects, California Council

DPR Receives "Award of Merit" for Interior Renovation

San Diego, CA, October 07, 2010 --(PR.com)-- DPR Construction’s (DPR) San Diego regional headquarters was recently honored with an “Award of Merit” for Interior Renovation by the American Institute of Architects California Council and Savings By Design group. The DPR office was recognized for its commitment to resource efficiency, responsibility for the environment, human productivity and quality of life.

“Our San Diego headquarters is a true representation of DPR’s culture,” said Jay Leopold, regional manager of DPR Construction. “It is important for us to uphold sustainable practices while creating a positive workplace for our employees. The solar panels, skylights, roof monitors and glass roll-up doors are just a few attributes that make our building unique. We are honored that our new office has been recognized with this distinguished award.”

Each year, Savings By Design and the American Institute of Architects, California Council, recognize design professionals for their exceptional design and creativity, environmental sensitivity and innovative energy solutions.

By making an effort to aim beyond minimum energy performance codes, design teams, like DPR’s architect Jonathan Wood of Seattle-based Callison, are able to produce an array of benefits for not only their clients, but for building occupants and the public. As one of the world's top architecture and design firms, Callison aims to design workplaces that foster collaboration and flexibility.

The 24,000 square foot DPR regional headquarters is a cutting edge facility that respects the environment, employees and the DPR culture. The building was designed to be Net Zero Energy and is pursuing LEED platinum certification through the U.S. Green Building Council by incorporating natural ventilation, day lighting systems, low-flow plumbing fixtures and an Energy Star roof. In addition to utilizing high recycled content materials in its framework, the building’s 64 kilowatt photovoltaic system generates enough power to offset its annual energy consumption.

Savings by Design is a statewide program that encourages high-performance, non-residential design and construction. The program is sponsored by various California utility companies including San Diego Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, Southern California Gas Company, Sacramento Municipal Utility District and Pacific Gas and Electric.
