Shade Tree Garage and Grow It Green Morristown Partner to Promote Environmental Stewardship

With community and the environment at the heart of Shade Tree Garage's commitment to its customers, they are partnering with Grow It Green Morristown and donating $1 of every oil change in October to this organizations' community projects.

Morristown, NJ, October 09, 2010 --(PR.com)-- As an automotive repair facility that has been dedicated to preserving the environment, Shade Tree Garage will be partnering with Grow It Green Morristown for the month of October. For every oil change performed during the month, Shade Tree Garage will donate $1 to Grow It Green Morristown projects.

The mission of Grow It Green Morristown is to be a catalyst for positive change in the Greater Morristown Community. They promote environmental awareness and stewardship to create a healthy, livable community where all residents have an opportunity for well-being. The goal is to encourage safe neighborhoods, walkable communities, bicycle friendly streets, clean air and water.

According to Shade Tree Garage’s owner, John O’Connor, “Our commitment to the environment and surrounding community has been important to us since we first opened our doors in 1975. Not only have we been an environmentally-friendly shop for many years, we were also one of the State’s first certified Green Automotive Repair Facilities.” O’Connor further states, “We’re very happy to be able to support a non-profit organization, like Grow It Green Morristown, by donating $1 of every oil change in October to their efforts.”

Founders of Grow It Green Morristown, Carolle Huber, Myra Bowie McCready and Samantha Rothman wanted to create a green space in Morristown that would further environmental awareness and promote a sense of community. The latest venture of the non-profit organization is the creation of an agricultural teaching garden called The Urban Farm at Lafayette. This ½-acre tract of land is used as a living classroom for approximately 4,700 children in the Morris School District. An added benefit of the project is the fact that produce from this garden will be donated to the District and area food banks.

The teaching garden is located at the Lafayette Learning Center on Hazel Street, in one of Morristown’s most diverse neighborhoods. Grow It Green Morristown’s co-founder, Carolle Huber says, “The Urban Farm at Lafayette is a wonderful community project and we’re happy for all the support of individuals and local businesses like Shade Tree Garage. Their generosity makes it possible for us to purchase the materials and supplies we need to keep this project thriving.”
