Votesane’s Political Pundits Spar About Tea Party’s Future Post Mid-Term Elections

Alexandria, VA, October 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Is the Tea Party a new brand, part of the Republican Party or just a fairy tale created by powerful, monied interests? Political pundits—Karen Finney and John Feehery—Votesane’s featured columnists, share different takes on the Tea Party and its future in their weekly debate called Sane? on Votesane.com, the nonpartisan, political web portal.

“Karen and John are Votesane’s yin and yang. Deciding who’s right and who’s wrong is up to consumers. That’s the purpose of Votesane: to be a political ‘storefront,’ where Americans can shop for ideas and candidates of their choice—getting a well-organized, balanced view of politics from which to pick,” said Votesane Founder Rob Zimmer.

On a regular basis, these two well-known pundits—and occasionally others—provide entertaining and often opposing sides and insights on topical issues facing the nation and world. Karen Finney, the former DNC communications director and Clinton staffer turned MSNBC political analyst, and John Feehery, former Speaker Hastert spokesperson turned TV commentator and author of the well-read Feehery Theory blog, both bring their perspectives from their respective sides of the aisle.

In this week’s debate, Finney reasons that “the form (Tea Party) movement takes post November is not so clear because the real Tea Party is more of a disparate confederation of local organizations with some shared themes, but differing priorities and no unified platform.” She also chides the Tea Party, saying: “The narrative of a national grassroots Tea Party movement is part myth, created by Dick Armey, the Koch brothers and their cadre of right-wing millionaires who’ve provided a critical pipeline of financial resources, and pushed the ‘spontaneous’ narrative on national television.”

However, Feehery argues that the Tea Party genesis was really “inspired movement of citizens who were sick and tired of being taxed to pay for bigger and more wasteful government.” He notes that the movement lacks an “inspirational or charismatic leader,” but contends that the Tea Party needs to recognize that it agrees with Republicans on “fundamental principles of what makes this country great” but disagrees on legislative tactics. Feehery contends that “the quicker the Republican/Tea Party can form a powerful coalition that can reform government and put the country back on the right track.”

The user-friendly destination contains news, data, and insights into congressional members, political candidates and timely issues as well as a chance to influence government by donating to candidates and causes directly from the site. It also provides interfaces with social media, on-site polling, voting records, voter registration, and other features found nowhere on the Internet. By offering a portal that informs and involves, Votesane creates a marketplace that serves all users, making the market for political activity more efficient going forward.

Sane? with Finney vs. Feehery is one of a variety of interesting features on Votesane.com that promises—as the tagline suggests—to help citizens “Take Control of Your CountryTM.” “Uncle Scott’s Sanity Checks” is another regular column that provides an unfiltered and politically incorrect view of official Washington and popular culture.

Other interesting features on Votesane.com include topical lists touching on big issues such as which politicians support building a mosque at Ground Zero and which do not. Interestingly, the list does not split down party lines. Other lists include: “Hero Candidates”, which has military veterans who are running for office, and “Women Who Win,” showing women hopefuls.

As part of its planning, Votesane relied on input from an advisory board, comprised of business and thought leaders representing all sides of the political equation. The advisory board’s role included providing advice about content, partnerships, and future positioning as well as vetting the site for functionality. Votesane operates as a federally registered PAC, enabling it to collect and distribute donations to political candidates.
