iGavel Auctions associate seller, Everard and Co. is pleased to announce the auction of the second part of the Eaton S. Lothrop Jr. Collection in an online auction running from October 6th-26th, 2010 on www.iGavelAuctions.com.

New York, NY, October 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- October 6th-26th, 2010 on www.iGavelAuctions.com. Following on from the success of Lothrop’s camera collection in July, which was 98% sold, this showcases his extensive interest in photographic history and research starting with American daguerreotypes and ambrotypes dating from photography’s earliest days, through stereocards and carte-de-visite and the tintype image. His photographic library, collections of advertisements and his personal research files complete the sale. The auction is divided into categories reflecting the various strengths of his collection: Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and cased images, Tinttypes, Stereocards, Cartes-de-Visite & Photographs, Advertising and Illustrative Material, Photographic Literature, and Lothrop’s Research Files. Eaton S. Lothrop, Jr. (1930-2008) collected cameras and related materials for nearly 50 years. He was one of the earliest collectors of photographic material starting in the 1960s. In 1968 he started the Photographic Collectors Newsletter, which was the world’s first periodical on the subject. In the early 1970‘s, Mr. Lothrop was asked by Beaumont Newhall, George Eastman House’s Director, to research their camera collection and A Century of Cameras was published in 1973 with an expanded edition in 1982. More recently he was commissioned to write about the Spira collection with his research appearing as The History of Photography as seen through the Spira Collection (2001).
