BOTTLE PR's Consumer PR Campaign Energises Brand Communications for General Electric with the Launch of ‘Create by Jason Wu’

Top UK PR agency BOTTLE PR once more captivate the cameras with their exciting consumer PR activity and spot-on social media marketing for the global engineering giants with the launch of the brand new GE digital camera

London, United Kingdom, October 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- General Electric (GE) is a historic global brand, known in the main for its commercial engineering and large domestic appliances. GE launched its first ever range of consumer electronics with a range of compact digital cameras in January 2008, for which the Oxfordshire-based public relations agency BOTTLE PR kick-started the consumer PR campaign with a UK launch. Bottle PR have been working with GE digital cameras on their brand communications ever since.

The brief for the 2010 consumer PR campaign activity was to reach out to a totally new audience and to establish a new positioning for the GE, as a fresh and fashionable brand.

To do this BOTTLE PR worked with GE digital cameras to launch the UK’s first fashion camera. Designed by Jason Wu, the well known American fashion designer, ‘Create by Jason Wu’ from GE digital cameras is for fashionable women. With its stunning leather body and a luxurious matching case, the camera looks amazing and is simple and easy to use. The camera brings together simplicity, high fashion and advanced technology to give a lifestyle accessory that delivers high quality photos at the touch of a button.

As the culmination of this comprehensive consumer PR campaign, BOTTLE PR decided to launch the camera at Graduate Fashion Week in June 2010, to showcase GE digital cameras at an event synonymous with the latest trends and fashions.

In the month leading up to the show, BOTTLE PR fully utilised the power of social media marketing to enhance the brand communications, activating the UK GE Twitter stream, running competitions and conversations about GE as a camera brand and in particular targeting women. We followed fashion bloggers and journalists, joining in with their conversations to make them aware of GE. A week before the launch we started to issue teasers about the Jason Wu camera.

GE exhibited at the show and BOTTLE PR extended the consumer PR campaign activity nationwide with a competition for graduates to take photographs of the catwalk shows over the course of three days. Fifty-four students took part in the competition to win a Create by Jason Wu camera and the pictures were judged daily by Hilary Alexander, Fashion Director at The Daily Telegraph, Simon Chilvers of The Guardian and the UK’s leading fashion blogger Susie Bubble. The competition photography was well documented via social media marketing using the platforms Facebook and Twitter to generate buzz and excitement.

In addition to GE digital camera’s involvement with Graduate Fashion week, BOTTLE PR expanded the brand communications to include a tie-up with the Glamour Magazine Woman of the Year Awards. The goody bags for celebrities at the event all included a ‘Create by Jason Wu’ and BOTTLE PR attended the Awards Party in person, taking photos with the camera, which were then seeded across Facebook and Twitter. This built the association with style and the latest trends.

Coverage of this overwhelmingly successful consumer PR campaign during Graduate Fashion Week included the Times, Grazie and Heat magazine and even featured tweets from Hilary Alexander about the camera. The social media marketing contribution to the activity was astounding, with Bottle PR fully meeting the brand communications brief to re-invent the GE brand image, by associating it with fashion and style.
