Exhibit Featuring Artists with Autism

Brooklyn, NY, October 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The 2nd Annual ArtShare for HeartShare, featuring artwork created by individuals with autism, cerebral palsy and other developmental disabilities runs November 2 through November 13, 2010. It is being held at the New Century Artists Gallery, located at 530 W. 25th Street, Suite 406 (between 10th and 11th Aves.), New York, New York. The gallery is open daily from 11 am to 6 pm, but closed on Sunday, Nov. 7. An Opening Reception will be held on Friday, November 5 from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Many of the artists will attend and be available to discuss their creations.

This year's exhibit features more than 50 pieces which include paintings, mixed media pieces, masks, and photography by more than 35 artists. This year’s artists attend a HeartShare day program or live in a group home or apartment. Three students from HeartShare’s preschools are also featured. They were all provided different mediums—watercolors, pencils, markers, acrylics, mixed media, clay, masks, photography, and more. They were encouraged to express their unique artistic viewpoint of the world around them, as well as explore their feelings, hopes and fears.

All of the artwork will be available for purchase. Last year, ArtShare for HeartShare presented over 45 pieces of artwork representing more than 30 artists. The exhibition sold 16 pieces which was a record for the gallery for number of artworks sold in a single show. HeartShare is hoping to top its own record this year.

HeartShare’s programs for individuals with developmental disabilities, located throughout Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, include 10 adult day programs which provide services to nearly 600 individuals and 26 group homes and 21 supported apartments which provide housing to more than 250 adults. Its five education programs build foundations for future learning for hundreds of children, and countless families benefit from its Family Support Services which include case management and respite/recreation programs.
