Cambridge, MA, October 23, 2010 --(PR.com)-- While most college students were relaxing over the summer, Kate Trenerry, a student at Carleton College in Northfield, MN spent her summer on a 1,600 mile cycling adventure along the Iron Curtain trail in Germany on her Montague Folding Bike.

Trennery began her trip in Travemünde Germany and rode an average of about 45 miles per day to the Danube River. Along the way she documented the experience on her blog and included stories about the people she met and pictures of the inspiring and sometimes haunting sites.

“My most rewarding experience,” explained Trenerry ”was spending two nights in Allendorf at Zur Krone Pension, where the owner, Viktor, is an expert on the former border, a founder of the local border museum, and was more than willing to share his knowledge with me.”

Trenerry rode a Paratrooper mountain bike from Montague Bikes to help carry herself and her gear which included a 25 lb. travel bag. The Paratrooper is a full-size folding bike that was originally designed for the U.S. Marines. “It’s been great” Trenerry said of the Paratrooper, “I'm not sure what I would do if my bike weren't so tough considering some of the road conditions I've faced!”

Besides the road conditions, maintaining nutrition and hydration was another challenge. “There were a few times when was pretty thirsty and low on water,” said Trenerry, “I always made sure I had enough to get to a bigger town where I knew I could find what I need, but I was constantly fighting dehydration, especially the last week or so where it was in the 80s every day. “
