New Oncologist Joins Women & Infants' Oncology Staff

Providence, RI, October 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Katina Robison, MD, has joined the staff at Women & Infants Hospital of Rhode Island as a gynecologic oncologist in the Program in Women’s Oncology. Dr. Robison will also serve as assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.

Dr. Robison, a Providence resident, earned dual bachelor’s degrees in physiology and psychology, magna cum laude, from San Francisco University, and a medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a fellowship in gynecologic oncology, both through Brown University at Women & Infants Hospital. During her fellowship, she garnered several awards, including Top Fellow Teacher at Brown, an Excellence in Scientific Gynecologic Oncology oral presentation from the New England Association of Gynecologic Oncologists, and Best Poster Presentation from the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists.

Dr. Robison has published research on several topics, including isolated sentinel lymph node dissection in vulva cancer patients, the effect of a vitamin D derivative on ovarian cancer, novel treatments of gynecologic cancer, and comparison of a novel multiple marker assay versus the Risk of Malignancy Index in predicting ovarian cancer. She has co-written guides to malignancies of the cervix.

Currently, she is leading a project entitled “Prevalence of HPV and Type Distribution in Southeast Asian Women Residing in Rhode Island.” This research is protected through her status as Women & Infants’ Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) scholar. The WRHR program is funded through the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development to ensure that young physicians have protected time to conduct clinical research to improve women’s health.

Dr. Robison is a member of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists and the Society of Surgical Oncologists, and a junior fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
