Local Restaurant Owners Assist National Titleholder

Fundraiser supporting 2011 Ms. Wheelchair America to be held at Growlers Pour House in Charlotte, NC on November 10th.

Charlotte, NC, November 03, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Local business owners, Jeff Tonidandel and Paul Manley, of Growlers Pour House and Crepe Cellar Kitchen & Pub, are holding a fundraiser on Wednesday, November 10th, from 6:00pm-8:00pm to support fellow Davidson College Alum, Alexandra McArthur, 22, in her role as Ms. Wheelchair America 2011. This event will be held at Growlers Pour House in NoDa and all donations will benefit McArthur in her travels across the country.

Charlotte and the surrounding community is invited to attend to celebrate McArthur, a North Carolina native and Charlotte resident, and assist in her advocacy to promote awareness and inclusion for people with disabilities. The event will include select cuisine from the pub and an array of craft beer from this newest restaurant in NoDa. All are welcome to attend.

“When McArthur approached us about holding a fundraiser here at Growlers Pour House, we were honored and excited to be able to help,” says Tonidandel, Davidson class of 1998. “What she is doing for the community is both inspiring and necessary, and we’re proud to be a part of it.”

McArthur has used a wheelchair since 2007 due to Muscular Dystrophy. Since that time, she has graduated Cum Laude from Davidson College with a B.A. in History. She now aims to develop leadership in others, working at Davidson College in the Chidsey Center for Leadership Development.

McArthur was selected as the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities in a national, week-long competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation. During her year-long reign as Ms. Wheelchair America 2011, McArthur has numerous objectives. She will have the opportunity to attend conferences, speak to advocacy groups, make public appearances and conduct radio, print ad, and TV interviews to promote awareness of the need to eliminate architectural and attitudinal barriers, informing the able-bodied public of the achievements of the millions of people with disabilities.

Donations from November’s fundraiser will allow McArthur to share her platform of Employment for People with Disabilities to Promote Inclusion across the nation. All contributions are tax deductible and benefit McArthur’s travel fund, through the Ms. Wheelchair America Organization, a 501c3, tax-exempt organization.
