The auction, which includes Fine and Decorative Arts, Silver, Jewelry, Rugs and Carpets spanning the 18th-20th centuries. The varied offering includes works by John James Audubon, Joseph Bail, a group of European Painters, diverse English, American and Continental furniture, numerous tribal rugs, Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier and lots of costume jewelry. There are nearly 150 lots from “Brushwood”, the old Ballantine Mansion in Bernardsville, New Jersey included in this auction. Accenting the offering are period furniture and high style reproductions like the Baker Furniture Chinoiserie-Decorated Chinese Chippendale Breakfront Cabinet. Other pieces include numerous botanical prints, paintings and accessories. From a Southern collector, they have a group of four prints by John James Audubon. All came from noted dealer Graham Arader and have been part of a fine Virginia collection until now. The star in this small lot is the image of the Great Horned Owl. The monumental Reed and Barton Francis I Coffee and Tea Service weighs over twenty-five pounds. Other highlights include at Tiffany Chrysanthemum Dinner Service for Twelve and Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry as well as a strand of Graduated Pearls with Diamond Clasp. John and Kathleen Nye acquired Dawson’s after his long and fruitful Sothebys career.
