New Release Shares Trials and Tribulations That Forged Character of Renowned DJ.; Dog Ear Publishing Releases Book by Rochell D. “Ro Deezy” Hart

Portland, OR, November 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- In the mid-1980s, the nation was shocked when a child was beaten to death in rural Oregon while under the care of the cult-like group, the Ecclesia Athletic Association. Eldridge Broussard, the father of the murdered child as well as the leader of the EAA, appeared on national television to defend the group’s teachings and excoriate the media for its purported role in the child’s death. Since Broussard’s death, the EAA has quietly disbanded, and no one has ever come forward to provide a picture of the day-to-day life of the organization while it was at its peak. David (DJ O.G. One) Jackson grew to maturity in the confines of the communal living space of the EAA, and his mother was one of the women convicted of the murder of Dana Broussard. This is his story — one of religious fanaticism, neglect, and ultimately triumphs over adversity.

After the Ecclesia Athletic Association disbanded, David Jackson found himself responsible for his children, his younger brother, and his young wife, while simultaneously realizing that he had no skills to deal with the real world. He and his wife struggled to get jobs, pay bills, and assume general adult responsibilities with no guidance. This is a truly inspirational story — a story of a boy who learns, quickly, to be a man, and who ultimately turns his love of music into a viable, vibrant career. Eventually, David Jackson became DJ O.G. One, a world-renowned DJ who has earned the respect of fellow musicians while maintaining his integrity. Today, DJ O.G. is a well respected community activist and the official deejay for the NBA’s Portland Trailblazers – making him one of only two official deejays for the entire NBA.

The Man Behind the Music: The Life and Times of David William (O.G. One) Jackson, Jr, published by Dog Ear Publishing, is a collaborative effort between Jackson himself and Rochell D. (Ro Deezy) Hart. Over the last five years, the two have worked together to bring O.G. One’s story to life. Rochell D. Hart is an award-nominated author of six books, a community activist, and a spoken-word artist. She was the recipient of a 2005 award from Rosa Parks, and spoken-word work has been highly solicited by major corporations and universities to local grassroots events. After earning her B.A. in psychology from Concordia University, Hart continues to live and work in her hometown of Portland, Oregon.
