Austin, TX, November 08, 2010 --(PR.com
)-- Continuing a tradition from Austin Art Space’s predecessor, Artspoken, the two year-old gallery will host the 6th Annual “12buy12” Show. The traditional event is a juried exhibition and sale of art no larger than 12 inches by 12 inches created by artists from Texas, the U.S and around the world. The intent is to present more accessible art appropriate for holiday gift giving, personal enjoyment and newer collectors. The title of the exhibit plays on the dimensional limits and the affordability of the smaller size. And, all works are offered for sale.
This year the exhibit encompasses oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, mixed media, photography and sculpture from 49 established and emerging artists from around the state and as far away as New York, Colorado, California and Oregon. Many of the 73 pieces selected for display were created specifically for the event. The juror for this year’s show was Carl McQueary. Mr. McQueary is a knowledgeable collector, art scholar and life-long Texas historian. Recognizing the importance of Texas Modern Art, he curates exhibits at the Austin Museum of Art, Laguna Gloria and others; expanding the knowledge, appreciation, and promotion of artists from early Texas Modernists to today’s artists.
Valerie Walden, the manager of the Austin Art Space collective observed, “The ‘12buy12’ show has traditionally been our most popular exhibit. But, this year is particularly remarkable. It’s the largest number of artists we’ve ever presented. And, the variety and quality of the work is striking. It’s a truly professional and entertaining show.”
Ms. Walden continued, “Since we opened two years ago this month, Austin Art Space has hosted 28 separate exhibitions including seven juried shows. And, we have presented over 150 different artists.”
A preview of all pieces is currently available from the Austin Art Space website. And, a special preview will be held during regular gallery hours on Friday, November 19. All patrons are welcome to attend the Artists’ Reception on Saturday, November 20, 5:00pm-9:00pm with the vast majority of the artists expected to be on hand to discuss their work. The show continues during regular gallery hours throughout the Christmas season, ending on December 18.
The large number of artists and the diversity of their work almost guarantee that patrons can find something that appeals to them. The gallery setting is conducive to appreciating the merits of the individual works of art, and the juried selection process establishes a high standard for inclusion. Historically, hundreds of people attend the reception and exhibit over the four weekends.
