An Historic Guantanamo at Pissedpoet Pics

Makati City, Philippines, January 22, 2007 --(PR.com)-- At the start of the 19th Century the Australian state of Tasmania’s penal colony of Port Arthur was the Guantanamo Bay of its day. It was there that the most dangerous criminals of the British Empire were sent to live out their days, forgotten by the rest of world, in a harsh and often unjust environment.

In 2007 Port Arthur is Tasmania’s premier tourist attraction boasting thousands of visitors each year. Budding photojournalist Darren Stones has captured both aspects of Port Arthur’s history in a series of his photographs in a guest gallery at www.pissedpoetpics.com.

The renovated and well cared for ruins of this tourist trap with its manicured gardens and sanitized displays have been captured by Stones camera. The ghosts of the past and a haunting view from an original resident’s perspective are also there, captured with imagination and flair by Stones.

“It is an honour to have this photographic series as a guest galley,” said www.pissedpoetpics.com webmaster, Henry Bateman. “The juxtaposition of the old and the new are displayed with a sensitivity that respects the new but doesn’t forget its origins,” he added.

Port Arthur by Darren Stones can be seen at www.pissedpoetpics.com as the latest addition to the web sites growing collection of guest galleries from photographic artists from around the world.
