)-- Dancer & Choreographer, Brandee Evans--fresh off a dancing gig with songstress Katy Perry on SNL--is coming back to where it all started. After getting some much deserved Hollywood shine on one of the country’s most celebrated late night TV shows, Brandee’s coming back to lead a workshop that not only allows her to share her talent and passion; but also the insight she’s gleaned from performing with some of the top acts in entertainment.
The one-of-a-kind workshop, will be held at Danzhouse on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 12 noon. The workshop is free to Danzhouse students. Tickets for general public admission are $20 per person. As part of the workshop, dancers will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with Brandee, as well as learn some of the latest dance tips and techniques being used by some of the country’s leading performers.
Studio owners, Kathalene Taylor-White and Vera Dantzler are very excited about the opportunity to have their young dancers meet and take class with such a prolific dancer.
“We have several girls that hope to dance professionally in LA, or on Broadway in NY,” says co-owner Kathalene Taylor-White. “So having Brandee here to teach and speak is a great way for them to be exposed to the realities of the dancing profession. And to hear about it straight from the source.”
“Both Vera and I danced on the Memphis Grizzlies dance team under the direction of Kathalene for 4 years,” says Brandee, nostalgically. “So the three of us have a great respect for one another, and were truly excited about giving the girls at Danzhouse a real glimpse into what it’s like to be a professional dancer.”
Brandee Evans danced in Memphis with the Memphis Grizzlies Dance Team and the University of Memphis Pom Team. The former High School English teacher taught at Bolton High, Germantown High and Southwind High School, and is currently on tour with Katy Perry. Brandee has danced on the Teen Choice Awards, the Grammy’s, the BET Awards, America’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance, Today Show and SNL. She’s performed with artists, Jamie Foxx, LL Cool J, Mary J Blige, Kelly Rowland, Snoop Dogg and Keri Hilson, among others.
DanzHouse was founded in August 2008, and is Memphis’ premiere dance studio for technical training in Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop and Tap. Owners Vera Dantzler and Kathalene Taylor-White established DanzHouse as an outlet for students and parents who are looking for creative arts activities that are new, exciting, and innovative. The four member teaching staff at Danzhouse is devoted to creating a positive atmosphere where each and every student is encouraged to reach their personal best. Dancers are encouraged to do all styles of dance, and are offered many opportunities to perform, both competitively and recreationally.
