Grauer School Charters Sister School Partnership with Maui Prep Academy

San Diego, CA, November 20, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The Grauer School located at 1500 South El Camino Real in Encinitas announced the formation of a sister school partnership with Maui Preparatory Academy in Napili, Hawaii, on the island of Maui. The partnership will promote opportunities for ongoing interaction of administrators, faculty, staff, students and parents. Participants from both schools will engage in ongoing discussions and interaction regarding the small schools movement, shared programs (curricular, co-curricular and extra curricular), school design, program and technology implementation as well as exploration of 21st century skills, sustainability and community service projects.

Much like the Grauer School, Maui Prep Academy maintains a small student-to-teacher ratio with a balance of rigorous academics, the arts, sports and community involvement. Similar to the Grauer School campus, (which is located on a 5-acre natural habitat) the Maui Prep Academy campus was established in 2005 after Maui Land & Pineapple Co. donated 15 ocean-view acres in Napili. Both schools are accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and operate as non-profit entities. Graduating class members from both schools consistently receive impressive merit scholarship offers.

According to Head of School Dr. Stuart Grauer, “Maui Prep Academy Headmaster George Baker and I both share parallel education philosophies, choosing to focus on the long-term benefit of a small school education when it comes to college and life preparation. We’ve both experienced comparable end results, proving that the small school movement Grauer has been advocating since 1991 is effective. This partnership will give rise to collaborative student research projects, joint expedition/environmental trips and athletic team interaction with students who have developed skills in like surroundings.”

The Grauer School is an independent grades 6-12 college preparatory day school; its students commit several thousand hours to humanitarian and ecological service annually, locally and globally. The School, now celebrating its 20th year in San Diego’s North County, is a UNESCO affiliated institution.
