International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association Launches New Excellence Awards for Writers

International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Assoc. (IFWTWA) has developed and launched an Excellence Award program in Journalism; travel, food and wine writers who are not members of the organization may self-nominate for one of two IFWTWA awards.

Diamond Bar, CA, February 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) Board of Directors is happy to announce the recent launch of the organization's new Excellence Awards program. A component of this program recognizes outstanding travel, food and/or wine writing in two categories: Professional Journalist and Emerging Writer.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of this program is being able to recognize and share the work of exceptional talent in the travel, food and wine writing fields,” says Allen Cox, IFWTWA board member and chair of the Excellence Awards program.

These annual awards replace IFWTWA's Wine, Food and Travel Writer Scholarship Contest.

Writers who are not currently members of IFWTWA are eligible to self-nominate for the Excellence Awards. There is a one-time $15 entry fee. Complete guidelines and self-nomination forms are online at IFWTWA's website.

The Professional Journalism Excellence Award recognizes seasoned, working food, wine and travel writers and will be in the form of a professional certificate signed by the IFWTWA President and an Excellence Award Committee member, a one-year IFWTWA membership, complimentary participation in the annual IFWTWA conference, publication in the organization's magazine Global Writes and more.

The Emerging Writer Excellence Award recognizes new food, wine and travel writers and will be in the form of a professional certificate signed by the IFWTWA President and an Excellence Award Committee member, a one-year IFWTWA membership, a cash prize, publication in Global Writes and more.

“Each entry is carefully evaluated by readers who are working travel, food and wine writers,” says Maralyn Hill, President of IFWTWA. “Every writer who earns an IFWTWA Excellence Award should view it as a clear message of prestige and honor from a peer group of experienced professionals.”

About IFWTWA: The International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association (IFWTWA) is a global network of journalists who cover the hospitality and lifestyle fields, and the people who promote them. In 1956 a group of prominent Frenchmen started rating restaurants. This small group, along with an American, conceptualized an international version of their organization. It became the International Food, Wine and Travel Writers Association when formally created as a non-profit organization in California in 1981.
