Connecticut History Earns Kudos

Summary of recent reviews and awards earned by the new colonial history of the New Haven area entitled Visible Saints: West Haven, Connecticut, 1648 - 1798. The book is described as the story of colonial America in microcosm.

Monroe, CT, December 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Visible Saints, a colonial history of the New Haven, Connecticut area, recently received rave reviews from the prestigious New England Historical and Genealogical Society. In its October 2010 edition of the New England Historical and Genealogical Register, Visible Saints, written by Connecticut historian Peter J. Malia, was called "a book well worth reading cover to cover for anyone interested in New England history."

Visible Saints also earned the 2010 Literary Award from the Connecticut Society of Genealogists as the best genealogical resource published in 2010.

"I am grateful that Visible Saints is being acknowledged as more than just good local history," Malia said. "It is the story of American colonial history in miniature, and it verifies that America's move towards independence was actually more a local and regional movement than it was a national effort." According to Malia, understanding local history provides the key to understanding the rise of American nationalism.

Visible Saints is available in both hard cover and paperback from The Connecticut Press at www.connecticutpress.com, as well as from Amazon.com.
