MEGAJOULE Organizes Charity Event to Support Local Community

This year MEGAJOULE supports SOCIALIS, an association for social solidarity. Besides the donation by the company each employee has contributed goods to offer a basket of necessities to the institution, from baby nappies to milk and baby shampoo.

Porto, Portugal, December 15, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Every year at Christmas MEGAJOULE chooses to support an institution in its municipality. To make a difference this year MEGAJOULE has chosen to not only make a monetary donation but to actively interact with the community. Last Saturday the 11th of December MEGAJOULE has organized a Christmas afternoon for children of the Semente Project at SOCIALIS. A dozen of children with their mothers have attended the event which took place in Vila Nova de Telha, close to MEGAJOULE’s headquarters.

The afternoon started with baking Christmas cookies and doing handicrafts related to Christmas. MEGAJOULE has also engaged two clowns who face painted the children and prepared a magic show. The day ended with the distribution of Christmas gifts to the children and the donation of the MEGAJOULE basket.

All employees supported the event with contributing necessary goods for the institution like baby food and hygiene essentials for babies and children.

MEGAJOULE’s board, Miguel Ferreira, Ricardo Guedes and Paulo Pinto also attended the event. Miguel Ferreira said that “It is rewarding to have the possibility to bring some happiness to these kids that are so much in need. Even if we are always very busy, it is important that we are able to take some time to help those who need.”

The main objective of the project is monitoring and supporting young mothers and pregnant teenagers. SOCIALIS takes care of almost 100 young mothers and pregnant teenagers. These young people often have no family structure or were abandoned and grew up in institutions. The girls are taught at SOCIALIS to be mothers, wives and professionals.

The social workers support the women through distributing cloths and shoes, personal hygiene products, nappies, milk and nutrition for the babies, food baskets (provided by the food bank or donations). In addition to that they also provide psychological, social and legal help, sex education and most importantly care and understanding.
