National Train Your Dog Month Celebrated by Dream Dogz & Dog Wood Park

In celebration of National Train Your Dog Month, Dream Dogz Training & Behavior and Dog Wood Park & Daycare are offering free training evaluations from January 4 through January 8, and many new group classes start the week of January 9.

Gainesville, FL, January 06, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Association of Pet Dog Trainers, the largest educational and professional association for dog trainers in the world, has proclaimed January "National Train Your Dog Month." The goal of this campaign is to promote the importance of training and socialization to all dog owners.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, between six and eight million dogs and cats are turned in to animal shelters each year, and about four million are euthanized for lack of good homes. Many dogs are turned in to shelters for common behavior and training issues that could easily be solved with the assistance of a professional trainer or behavior counselor. In fact, it has been proven that training and socializing dogs when they're young reduces or eliminates behavior problems in the future.

Since January is the time for New Year’s resolutions, it is the perfect time for the dog-owners of Alachua County, and those who may be considering getting a dog, to learn about the importance and impact of training for their pet. The APDT web site has a wealth of helpful information for pet owners at www.apdt.com/petowners.

Dream Dogz Training & Behavior and Dog Wood Park & Daycare are offing free training evaluations from January 4 through January 8. The times are: Tuesday, January 4th from 10 am to noon; Wednesday, January 5th from 2 pm to 4 pm; Thursday, January 6th from 4 pm to 6 pm; Friday, January 7th from 11 am to 1 pm; and Saturday, January 8th from 10 am to 1 pm.

The evaluations are absolutely free and open to the public. All you need to do is bring your dog to Dog Wood Park (located at 5505 SW Archer Rd, Gainesville) during the times posted above. You will have your dog evaluated by Victoria Warfel of Dream Dogz, who teaches her group classes at Dog Wood Park. She will customize a training plan based on your dog's personality, level of training, and your goals.

In addition to the AKC Obedience, Agility, and Trickz class offered at Dog Wood Park last year, this year many new classes have been added to the line up. The new classes include AKC STAR Puppy, AKC Canine Good Citizen Prep, Nose Work, Control Unleashed, Fun Obedience & Games, and Versatility. All classes start the week of January 9th, and registration is available online at www.DogWoodPark.com.

"These classes are fun! There is something for every dog, no matter his or her age or breed," said Victoria Warfel. "Our goal is for you to have the dog you've always dreamed of!"
