New York, NY, January 14, 2011 --(PR.com
)-- iGavel Auctions is pleased to present The Korean Contemporary Art Auction curated by Zoe Chun. The auction will run from January 10th to Jaunary 25th, 2011 on iGavelAuctions.com. The works of art in this auction have been hand selected by the artists in conjunction with Zoe Chun, and represent a comprehensive collection of Korean Contemporary drawing, painting and photography.
The auction contains a total of 32 lots by ten artists, including 17 drawings, 10 paintings and 5 works of photography. The participating artists are painters and mixed media artists whose art mostly consists of large sized canvas paintings and installations: however, for this auction, they have incorporated smaller, more traditional works of art.
One highlight of the Korean Contemporary Auction is Nung Saeng Park’s painting from the Sounds of Nature series. Park applies a Korean traditional technique of painting that uses many layers of delicate thin paper, covered several times with Asian ink. While the technique is a traditional one, the images of his paintings are more modern, revealing a unique visual and ideational perspective.
Another work of particular importance is Tae Hun Kim’s DMZ series. Each work has a narrative that is divided between North and South Korea, inspired by a visit to the DMZ which inspired the artist. Kim’s focus of the series has humorous but sentimental impressions rather then direct political implications.
Altogether, this auction hopes to expose western art collectors and connoisseurs to young, established Korean artists and their vibrant art scene. Lots will be available for bidding at iGavelAuctions.com through January 25th, 2011. The Korean Contemporary Art Auction is presented by Zoe Chun, a New York and Seoul based curator.
