Jersey Shore Writers Boost New Novelist

Guerrilla marketing tactic exploits Jersey Shore's media profile.

Toledo, OH, January 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The absurdity of Jersey Shore cast members Snooki and The Situation being published authors is proving to be a boon to Richard Buzzell, author of the new novel “ZombieStop Parade.” He’s benefiting from the Jersey Shore authors’ notoriety by publishing some satirical works on his blogsite http://zombiestop.wordpress.com.

The spoofs play upon the incongruity between the Jersey Shore cast’s reading-lite lifestyle and the image of erudition normally associated with authors.

ZombieStop Parade is not a book that has anything in common with Jersey Shore. It also doesn’t have anything to do with zombies. It’s a story about contemporary culture and the relationship between individuals and the media. Its only connection to Jersey Shore is that of sharing blog space with the spoofs of the show.

Buzzell is deliberately piggybacking on the recognisability of the Jersey Shore name in order to gain some exposure for his own writing. This is the kind of tactic that independent writers are resorting to in lieu of the television publicity campaigns available to authors with high media profiles.

With the news that JWOW, another Jersey Shore cast member, will soon be releasing her own book, Buzzell’s spoofs seem increasingly apt insofar as they suggest that the publishing business is becoming content-irrelevant.

His satire is resonating with other writers who after years of developing their craft find themselves spurned by the publishing industry in favour of semi-literate reality T.V. stars.

If it turns out that Jersey Shore is able to indirectly boost the career of even one emerging writer, then Mr. Buzzell will be happy to claim that they made a positive contribution to the world of literature after all.
