Norfolk State University Streamlines Mounting Obligations and Reduces Costs with MOAT

Lincoln, NE, January 20, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Norfolk State University (NSU) implemented Awareity’s award-winning MOAT (Managed Ongoing Awareness and Trust) tools to address escalating costs and obligations associated with information security, campus safety, risk management, privacy and compliance.

Like other colleges and universities in Virginia and across the nation, NSU has experienced budget cuts and is assessing ways to leverage limited resources. By implementing MOAT, NSU is significantly reducing administrative and operations costs, as well as expensive training, documentation and printing costs immediately and ongoing.

NSU’s Information Security Officer, Andrea Di Fabio said, “Norfolk State University recently implemented MOAT to deliver online security awareness training and track compliance with University and Virginia IT Agency (VITA) security policies. MOAT is an easy to manage and effective online tool which has greatly reduced the time we spend delivering, tracking, and responding to user training and compliance. Additionally, we are very pleased with the timely and expert support we received from the Awareity staff. We look forward to expanding the use of MOAT and further integrating it into our account lifecycle management.”

MOAT enables campus administrators to upload organization specific training presentations, case studies, policies, procedures, plans, manuals, maps, etc. into their secure Awareness Vault and share documents with all appropriate personnel on an ongoing basis as updates and changes are needed. NSU understands that risks and threats are constantly changing, and it is critical for faculty and staff to receive ongoing situational awareness, training, policy updates and reminders throughout the year because once-a-year general training is not working.

By utilizing MOAT, all university personnel and third-parties (vendors, contractors, law enforcement, etc.) better understand their individual compliance requirements with new and updated federal/state regulations. MOAT Administrators also have easy access to on-demand progress reporting and preparedness metrics. NSU implemented MOAT on October 1 and by November 15, over 85% of personnel had completed their awareness training requirements and certification.

MOAT also provides NSU access to Awareity’s new TIPS (Threat Assessment, Incident Management and Prevention Services). TIPS empowers employees, students, staff and third-parties to confidentially report incidents and red flags (bullying, workplace violence, ethical issues, etc.) and enables prevention teams to track and monitor reports with on-demand tools and documentation to ensure red flags and tips do not fall through the cracks.
