Self-leveling coatings based on Bayer MaterialScience LLC’s Desmophen® 1150 polyester resin and Desmodur® VL technologies are appropriate for a variety of applications requiring a seamless floor, particularly those in the healthcare market, industrial settings and other high-traffic and high-impact areas. These bio-based coatings provide a number of advantages for renovation and refurbishment projects.
“The technology can beautify old flooring by filling in pits, chips, cracks and spalling, eliminating areas for staph to grow. These coatings are also hydrophobic, so they will not be affected by humidity during application. Once applied, the formulation’s urethane backbone enables energy absorption, resulting in a lower chance of impact and less chip damage.
Applicators looking for an ornamental finish can apply decorative topcoats over the self-leveling coatings, which are compatable with polyaspartic, waterborne and UV topcoat systems. The coatings also allow you to maximize your labor costs, since both the self-leveling coatings and topcoat can be applied the same day. The result is a seamless, more antiseptic floor.
