QA Graphics Creates Web Interface for Metasys® Building Management System to Display Energy Use

QA Graphics has developed a web interface to simplify the use of their Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard with Johnson Controls’ Metasys® Building Management System to allow the display of real-time energy use and environmental education.

Des Moines, IA, January 26, 2011 --(PR.com)-- QA Graphics, a Midwest design firm specializing in creative solutions for the building automation industry, has created a web interface to streamline the integration process of their Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard (EEED) with Johnson Controls Inc.’s Metasys® building management system.

QA Graphics provides a variety of services for Johnson Controls. Their Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard is also used in a number of projects that utilize the Metasys® building management system. To further help their Johnson Controls customers in turn help their clients, QA Graphics has developed a web interface to streamline the process of integrating the Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard with the Metasys® building management system.

The Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard is an award-winning educational tool used by organizations to inform building occupants and the public about their sustainable practices. It’s a web-based user interface that is integrated with a building’s control system to display real-time building performance data. It complements the Metasys system already in place, by showing the data in a more simplified format that’s easier for occupants and the public to understand. This allows everyone to get on board with the organization’s sustainability efforts and further improve building efficiencies.

Typically, the Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard requires a hardware component to integrate the application with a building’s control system. With QA Graphics’ new web application for Metasys, the need for that hardware is eliminated, reducing setup time and making the integration process even easier. The new web application is an interface between the Johnson Controls MSEA network and QA Graphics’ Data Manager, which collects the live building data to distribute it for viewing on the final EEED interface. After installing the web application, it handles the point configuration, MSEA login, MSEA data retrieval, and the formatting of the returned data for display on the EEED.The building data can be shown in hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly increments, and baseline data can be uploaded to compare the building’s performance to industry standards.

“Because we have built relationships with so many Johnson Control providers across the country, we continue to look for new ways to provide creative solutions that can be passed on to their customers,” said Dan McCarty, president of QA Graphics. “By developing this web interface, we can offer the Energy Efficiency Education Dashboard at a significantly lower cost with an easier installation process.”

The EEED has been utilized in over 500 buildings, including schools, universities, restaurants, commercial businesses, government organizations and others. Displayed online or on a touchscreen in a building lobby, it provides education about sustainable initiatives, using a variety of features like interactive quizzes, animated demonstrations and environment tips on how everyone can help make their building more efficient. The application is also editable, giving the end-user the ability to change much of the content and images as the sustainable initiatives progress. The solution can help earn green building certification points, contributing towards satisfying the U.S. Green Building Council’s® Innovation in Design Green Education and Innovation in Design School as a Teaching Tool credits under LEED®, and a variety of points under The Green Building Initiative’s™ Green Globes® green building rating and assessment system.
