Copenhagen Hosts Transmission, Distribution & Smart Grids Europe in April

Copenhagen, Denmark, January 29, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The rapidly changing energy road map of Europe, including upgrading and connecting infrastructure, automating networks and integrating renewable energy, will be addressed during the annual Transmission & Distribution Europe and Smart Grids Europe conference and exhibition from 12-14 April in Copenhagen, Denmark. Utility experts, regulators and technology giants from all over Europe and further afield will meet at what is the leading utility forum on the continent.

Danes are leaders on green issues
“Denmark is the perfect setting for this unique platform,” says Aida Mezit, project director of Transmission & Distribution Europe, “because the Danes are leaders on green issues such as energy conservation and integration of renewables. Both the local utilities with their advanced smart-grid rollouts and government with their carbon reduction targets and regulations are pushing for new ways to synergise the energy supply system.”

More than 30 utilities from all over Europe, as well as the USA, South Africa, Japan and Australia, will share their experiences and report back on projects, including a strong Danish delegation.

Energy demand to increase by 36%
The International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook 2010 concluded that energy demand will increase by 36% between 2008 and 2035, largely due to increased standards of living in fast developing nations. The share of sustainable energy is projected to double during this period to 14%. According to Aida Mezit, project director of Transmission & Distribution Europe: “Such rapidly changing energy landscape will have far-reaching consequences for the energy infrastructure and ratio of energy demand and supply, creating unparalleled opportunities for the energy producers, technology providers, consumers and all other parties involved in energy networks of the future.”

Programme highlights include:

Keynote session:
- Future energy landscape & intelligent electricity networks
The electrical utility industry is making the transition to a new infrastructure with benefits of improving the performance of electric utility systems and addressing the energy needs of society, such as improved efficiency and utilization, renewable energy integration, demand response, power quality and reduced maintenance cost.
- Overview of smart networks infrastructure in Europe
Christophe Schramm, Policy Officer, DG Energy, European Commission, Belgium
-Strategy & policy: intelligent energy networks in Europe
Torben Glar, Executive Vice President, Electricity Division, Energinet, Denmark
- New frontiers in revitalizing the power grid
Damir Novosel, Vice President, IEEE PES Technical Council, USA
- European regulatory updates: 2020 targets, the third package and the SET plan
Finn Dehlbæck, Director, Danish Energy Regulatory Authority (DERA), Denmark
- Regulation and policy
The coherence and convergence of all European regions towards the single-EU energy market is the ultimate goal for electricity regulators.
- Implementing Smart Grids/Cities – practical experiences and future vision
The urban environment is responsible for over 40% of world energy consumption, and as such there is an ever-increasing demand to power cities in a more sustainable way.
- Electrical vehicles and the grid
The plug-in electrical vehicles are one of the fundamental components of creating a new energy landscape and their mainstream adoption will lead to a major shift in the transport reliance on fossil fuels.

Event dates and location: 12-14 April 2011 at the Bella Center, Center Boulevard, Copenhagen.
