Adelphi University is Proud to Host NOISE, a Modern Music Ensemble on March 12

Garden City, NY, February 05, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Adelphi University’s Department of Music is pleased to announce that it will host New Music VI featuring members of the ensemble NOISE on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 8:00 p.m. in the state-of-the-art Concert Hall of Adelphi’s Performing Arts Center (AU PAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City, NY.

This program will feature contemporary music performed by NOISE. The San Diego-based group is an ensemble of accomplished soloists committed to presenting energetic and engaging concerts of the best chamber music written by today’s young and innovative composers. New Music VI will feature three members of NOISE: Christopher Adler, khaen and piano, Lisa Cella, flute, and Franklin Cox, cello.

Founded in 2000 as the ensemble-in-residence with San Diego New Music, NOISE presents the annual soundON Festival of Modern Music at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library in La Jolla, California. NOISE has also performed at universities nationwide, including Stanford University, the University of Virginia, the University of California, Santa Cruz, the University of San Diego, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

Highlights of the evening will be the premiere of Babaylan (Healer), by Adelphi Assistant Professor Sidney Boquiren as well as contemporary concert music for the bamboo mouth organ from Northern Thailand and Laos, the khaen. The program includes music by Adler, Burns, Cox, Loeb, Munakata, and Ziporyn.
