Kiler Grove Winegrowers Opens Utah’s First Urban Winery

Fine Hand-Crafted Rhône-Style Wines Now Available Direct from Producer

Salt Lake, UT, February 10, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Kiler Grove Winegrowers is thrilled to announce the opening of Utah’s First Urban Winery, where wine lovers of legal drinking age can sample and purchase Kiler Grove’s fine Rhône-style wines.

Kiler Grove Winemaker/Co-Owner Michael Knight draws on 40-plus years of grape-growing and wine-making experience to craft well-balanced wines that are produced exclusively from grapes grown in the west side of the Paso Robles Appellation, one of the most acclaimed grape-growing regions in California. Kiler Grove wines are produced by hand, in very small quantities, with an average annual production of 1,500 cases. Wines that are currently available for sampling (free of charge) and purchase at the Kiler Grove Winery include 2007 vintages of Interpretation (a blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah), Zinergy™ (a blend of Zinfandel, Grenache and Petite Sirah), Petite Sirah, and their new 2008 Trebbiano, a little-known varietal that is bold and crisp, with fresh kiwi, grapefruit and melon flavors.

In response to the natural question “Why Utah?” Knight replies, “In a nutshell, Utah’s business-friendly environment made sense. Our winery permit in Paso Robles didn’t allow for tasting room privileges on our property. After years of fighting California’s very slow-moving bureaucracy, we decided to move the bulk of our wine making operations to Utah. Since my wife Elva and I are long-time Utah residents, we figured we’d try something at home. Utah’s business-friendly environment and recent moderation of liquor laws seemed like a much more appealing business prospect than continuing to fight an intractable bureaucracy back in California. Plus, we were excited about the prospect of bringing our wines to the Utah, which has truly become a sophisticated market for authentic, high quality food and wines.”

The Kiler Grove Winery and Tasting Room are available for private parties, receptions and classes, and are ideal for wine tastings, cocktail parties and small gatherings like book club meetings. “We’ll be offering tours of the winery, wine appreciation and wine-making classes later this year,” comments Michael Knight. “We are looking forward to becoming part of Utah’s great local food community and invite all who are interested in learning more about our wines and wine-making in general, to stop by, say hello and see what we’re all about.”
