Dig This® to Open Heavy Equipment Playground in Las Vegas

Steamboat Springs, CO, February 12, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Dig This®, the nation’s first recreational heavy equipment playground, announced today the scheduled opening of Dig This Las Vegas for Friday, April 1, 2011.

Dig This has received approval from the Las Vegas Planning Commission to operate Dig This Las Vegas on a five-acre site at 3012 S. Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89102. The site has been vacant since the Scandia Amusement Park ceased operations in 2006.

Dig This has also entered into a lease agreement for a 2,850 square foot office adjacent to the property. The site and office are just minutes from The Strip, one block from the Palace Station Hotel + Casino. Shuttle service from Las Vegas Boulevard will be available.

The Dig This Las Vegas office will feature retail sales of licensed Caterpillar CAT merchandise including: apparel, hats, accessories, toys, and collectibles.

“Las Vegas is one of the most visited destinations in the United States, people come to Vegas to play, it’s the perfect home for Dig This,” said Ed Mumm, Dig This founder and CEO. “I’m excited to bring the latest in recreational and corporate entertainment to Vegas. It’s the only place in the world where you can experience the thrill and rush of operating heavy equipment in a fun, safe, unique environment.”

Ed Mumm first introduced his heavy equipment playground concept to the public in December 2007, in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Dig This’ original location fulfilled the dreams of individuals and corporate groups from around the USA and abroad, providing the ultimate venue to rumble around the world’s largest sandbox commanding the controls of Caterpillar D5G track-type bulldozers, 315CL hydraulic excavators and skid steer loaders.

Dig This introduces its signature super-sized sandbox to Las Vegas after years of planning. “After perfecting our business model in Steamboat Springs, we’re ready for Vegas,” said Chad James, Dig This Vice President. “We found out that throttling up a powerful engine and sculpting mounds of earth is very empowering, and guests were willing to travel to a remote town in Northwest Colorado specifically to do so. Our new venture in Vegas provides us with a larger and more accessible location, the possibilities are endless.”

Beginning April1, 2011, Dig This Las Vegas will be open 8:00 am - 5:00 pm daily offering the “Big Dig” as the standard three-hour activity. After an equipment and safety orientation, participants will get behind the controls in climate controlled, radio monitored cabs and maneuver equipment in individual work areas. Guests may choose to operate either a Caterpillar D5 track-type dozer or a Caterpillar 315CL hydraulic excavator during their Big Dig session.

Additionally, Dig This Las Vegas will offer corporate team building programs; “Mega Days” featuring some of the largest earth-moving machines in the Caterpillar arsenal; and will be available for private and special events. Reservations for Dig This Las Vegas programs are now being taken at www.digthisvegas.com.

Dig This has garnered international attention and coverage from some of the biggest names in the media including CBS Sunday Morning, CNBC, CNN, The Wall Street Journal, and USA Today.

Dig This’ inspiration came to New Zealander Ed Mumm, while he was operating heavy equipment to construct his home in Steamboat Springs, CO. After having fun clearing trees and scrub oak, constructing a road, building a pond, and digging foundations, he realized the potential for a business opportunity and the concept for Dig This was formed.

To focus on the launch of Dig This Las Vegas, operations in Steamboat Springs closed October 1, 2010. However, Dig This’ headquarters remain in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
