Calloway’s Nursery Announces 2010 Tree Story Contest Winner

Calloway’s Nursery, in conjunction with Greenleaf Nursery, awarded the winner of the O2 Planting for the Future Tree Story Contest on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011.

Fort Worth, TX, March 18, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The Tree Story Contest was part of Calloway’s and Cornelius Nursery’s efforts to increase awareness about the horticulture industry and encourage tree planting. Participants were asked to submit a photo and a 75-word narrative about their favorite tree. Then, members of the gardening community website, mytexasgarden.com could vote for their favorite story. More than 30 people or organizations entered the contest.

The winner, Charles Durrenberger of McKinney, Texas (Tree Story #8), received more than 13,000 votes and earned the $1,000 American Express gift card prize. Charles’ story focused on his 18-year old son who died in 2004. He planted a Chinese Pistachio tree in remembrance of his son. The picture of his tree also featured his younger daughter.

“This is the second year we’ve held the O2 Planting for the Future Contest. We are elated at the amount of participation this year,” Kimberly Bird, Vice President of Retail Marketing, remarked.
