Citizen Effect’s Brackets with Benefits Adds Good to NCAA Tourney

Tournament Now Open for Individual and Office Pool Registrations

Washington, DC, March 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- In March, college basketball fans across the country partake in an annual ritual to fill out NCAA basketball tournament brackets. Citizen Effect is hosting its 2nd Annual Brackets with Benefits, sponsored by Edelman, the Case Foundation, CrowdFlower and Fathead, to put a philanthropic twist on your NCAA bracket. Brackets with Benefits works just like other pools - players donate $10, fill out a bracket, and win prizes and bragging rights. But most importantly, the Brackets with Benefits champion will choose which of Citizen Effect’s critical philanthropy projects to fund with all the donations.

The tournament is now open for registration at http://citizeneffect.org/tourney. Brackets go live on Sunday, March 13 at 7PM EST. Brackets close on March 17 at 12:30PM EST.

“Everyone fills out a bracket – President Obama, our co-workers, your aunt Sally – so we want to harness all that enthusiasm for good,” said Citizen Effect Founder and CEO, Dan Morrison. “This year, the Brackets with Benefits champion will get to choose which Citizen Effect project to fund with all the donations. If their interest is water, they can fund a well in Uganda. If their issue is education, they can fund an arts program in New York. And the entire Brackets with Benefits community will get to see the direct impact we have on a community in need.”

Brackets with Benefits is open to individuals and offices. Offices can run their pools through Brackets with Benefits by creating a subpool. The two office pools with the most participants will also receive $500 from the Case Foundation to allocate to the Citizen Effect project of their choice. And the first 50 offices (10 participants minimum) that sign-up will receive a free 4’x4’ Fathead bracket wall poster.

Tournament prizes include an iPad, Flip HD video cameras, and TOMS Shoes Gift Packs. Prizes will be awarded to individuals with the top sixteen brackets (prizes are subject to change).
