DirectRooms.com – Edinburgh Becomes Filled with Mythical Beings During Fire Festival

DirectRooms.com announces that the Beltane Fire Festival will be coming to Edinburgh at the end of April which people can attend to see the most amazing fire displays, imaginative costumes and dramatic performances.

Edinburgh, United Kingdom, March 11, 2011 --(PR.com)-- The festival is held to mark the start of spring and is held every year on Calton Hill where up to 12,000 people go to watch the procession of performers reliving tales from ancient times.

The fire theme to the festival originates from Scottish and Irish-Gaelic traditional customs where fires in the community would be put out and a spiritual guide would build one sacred fire. From this main fire two smaller fires were lit and the village livestock would be passed through as a way to cleanse the animals in the hope of having healthy offspring in the coming year. People would then use pieces of the fire to light the hearths in their own homes as a symbol of good luck for the family.

During the modern day festival in Edinburgh the hill becomes alive with elaborate performances featuring lively characters that represent the coming of spring including everything from wicker men, god like deities and fire bearing demons.

With the thousands of people turning out for the show Edinburgh hotels are set to be overcome with visitors when the festival runs on 30th April 2011.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head at DirectRooms.com commented: “The performances and costumers that go into the show are extraordinary and this causes many people to attend which leads to limited availability at nearby hotels.”
