A Brighter Future for the Planet is the Goal as Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket Goes Dark for Earth Hour 2011

For the Third Year, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Around the Globe Join Together to Mark Environmental Awareness Event. Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket to turn all non-essential lights off for an hour and stage F&B events such as a candlelit beachfront buffet dinner and Earth Hour 2011 management cocktails.

Phuket, Thailand, March 15, 2011 --(PR.com)-- By spending an hour in the dark next week, Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket will join millions around the world to send a powerful message about a brighter future for the planet.

Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket will turn off its lights in observance of Earth Hour, the global environmental awareness event created by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Last year, Earth Hour 2010 became the biggest Earth Hour ever. A record 128 countries and territories joined the global display of climate action. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Asia Pacific to Europe and Africa to the Americas switched off. People across the world from all walks of life turned off their lights and came together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet.

To underscore parent Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc.’s (NYSE: HOT) dedication to environmental sustainability, Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket will also share other energy-saving measures during Earth Hour, March 26 at 8:30 p.m. local time: all non-essential lighting at the resort will be switched off, the air conditioners and other power consuming devices in all vacant rooms will be turned off and the restaurants will operate at candle and table light only. Guests of the resort will also be encouraged to participate in the following ways: joining the complimentary Earth Hour 2011 management cocktails held on the premises, an optional candlelit barbeque beachfront dinner and several other energy saving initiatives which they can adopt in their rooms.

Reserve your seat at the Earth Hour 2011 candlelight beachfront barbeque (26th of March 2011 from 18:30) for only THB 750++ per person. Please contact our guest services team at 076 324 101, or make a reservation via e-mail fb.sheratonlagunaphuket@luxurycollection.com.

Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket also encourages everyone to join Earth Hour 2011 by switching off your lights for an hour on the 26th of March 2011, in order to experience the difference that you can make. Because turning off the lights is always better when shared. Visit www.earthhour.org and show the world what can be done.

Earth Hour is drawing strong support from Starwood hotels around the globe. Last year, unlit hotels offered striking visual imagery that provided an apt symbol of Earth Hour. This year, 115 Starwood properties in Asia Pacific will be supporting Earth Hour.

“In our continuous efforts to promote sustainable development and tourism, we are proud of the commitment of all ambassadors of Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket to ‘Earth Hour 2011’ and would like to encourage you to join us in this initiative,” said Klaus Christandl, General Manager, Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket. This year will mark Starwood’s third annual participation in Earth Hour, making it one of the biggest worldwide companies to make a global statement with a voluntary hour of darkness.
