Badminton champion Donna Kellogg MBE will return to her old College on Wednesday to officially open new sports facilities designed to nurture the stars of the future.
Derby College has invested nearly £250,000 in indoors sports facilities for students at The Johnson Building in Locomotive Way, Pride Park, which will be officially unveiled by Donna Kellogg.
Donna studied for A levels at the College before going onto Loughborough University – combining her studies with playing badminton at county, national and then international levels, competing in three Olympic Games, and winning three Commonwealth gold medals as well as achieving three European and 11 national titles.
She will tour the new facilities at Derby College including a sports hall, gymnasium, dance studio and watch demonstrations by students of a wide range of activities from basketball to circuits.
Peter Gordon, Assistant Principal in charge of Sport at Derby College said: "We are delighted that Donna who has reached the top of her sport and is a former student at Derby College has agreed to officially open our new facilities.
"Sport continues to be a popular choice for young people who go onto either University or straight into work from College and visitors to the official opening will also hear from the students about the wide range of voluntary and community-based activities that they get involved in here to strengthen their CVs and broaden their horizons."
